A bit more than 6 months into 2010 - in fact, it's Canada Day today! Life has been good in the True North and over the recent past, I have travelled half of the world (or half way around the world rather) and grown all the more wiser ... and an even bigger sage now!
Now to the topic of the discussion - Air Transat. An airline provider of reasonably cheap flights across the Atlantic with a $7 "Comfort Kit" (blanket, travel pillow and ear phones) - definitely not comfortable for my wallet!! The air hostess justifies the cost by stating it is to protect the environment and "keep it as is" and hence, not using the reusable ones. What? Excuse me ... I thought that's exactly how one saves the planet and the words re-usable (and recycling) are synchronous with eco-friendly, hybrid, green and all the other jargons used by the tree hugging pundits!! The stewardess would have done us, and Air Transat, a huge favor by simply stating that they found a great way to make the airline "greener"!!
PS: Happy Canada Day everyone ...

Top of the food chain?
The more years I acquire, the more I find myself questioning humanity's right to claim top rung on the evolutionary ladder. What right do we have to make such grandiose statements when we choose to spend billions on wars instead of feeding the hungry and ensuring all have a roof over their heads. Were we to trade in bombs and tanks for food and shelter perhaps then we would have a right to make such bold declarations. Just because no other species on the planet has verbally contested our claims does not make it a fact. The more I look around the more disgusted I become with the state of our planet and the lack of interest in trying to change what we have been conditioned to accept as "the way it is".
Will we wake up in time to notice that our grip on that precarious top rung is slipping?

Big Ben in trouble
The quarterback of the Pittsburg Steelers football team, Ben Roethlisberger, is facing possible court hearing for allegedly raping a woman back in July 2008.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-roethlisbergerlawsuit&prov=ap&type=lgns
Now where do I even begin? Well ... let me try!
1. Can someone get Troy Polamalu so that he can "tackle" all these attacks directed at his QB?
2. Apparently Ben lured the girl under the pretense of getting his TV repaired and then assaulted her. Now ...
First of all, you are a GUY Ben! You had to get a GIRL's help to get your TV repaired? That's quite sad but then again, he is a football player - a SMART football player would be an oxymoron!
Secondly, a FEMALE technician!!! Seriously?? To me it sounds more of a scene from a cheap porn flick!
3. How come there is far less public outcry and shock at this incident, regardless of it being true or not? Oh wait I know ... the victim is not a dog!!!!

Translator for what?
After drinking and driving and killing 3 innocent people in such a horrific crash, is there a really a need for a trial (and a bloody translator) and wasting our tax dollars on it?

"Death on the GO"
This should perhaps be one of the new quips that the GO Transit can advertise in addition to their "GO get some rest", "Get on the GO", "GO to sleep" and other such ad nauseum use of the word "GO"!!
This past Wed some lost soul decided to see if she had re-generating capabilities after jumping in front of the train. Apparently those capabilities are only limited to Wolverine and Claire (from HEROES)!! What DID happen however was that people on the train ... some 1500 of them ... were delayed and agitated and stranded for a little more than 3 hours!!
I wonder why doesn't the GO Transit have some kind of contingency plan for situations like these? It's the 21st century for crying out loud ...
Or wait ... perhaps I shouldn't be complaining as I got a credit voucher ... yayyyy!!

Water is now worth $35 million!
Guy Laliberte is back from his 11 day journey in space ... and Earth is now better informed of the scarcity of water!
Really?
It takes approximately $2500 to dig wells in third world countries that not only provides water to rural places but also creates jobs for the people while they are at it. I wonder how many wells (and how much WATER) could have been sponsored with $35,000,000!!!??
The rich and their ridiculous hobbies ... if only we had a few more tycoons who "cared" for the peasants of the world!
PS. Oh let me go and check the water in the shower ... was running for 5 minutes ... must be warm now!! :D
